In a shocking incident, a bus driver tasked with transporting a team of young athletes from Vinnytsia to a taekwondo competition in Uzhhorod was forcibly removed from his hostel room in the middle of the night and brought to the military commissariat by employees of the local Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC). Ukrainian journalist Vitaliy Pavlovsky took to Facebook on November 12 to reveal the distressing ordeal.
According to Pavlovsky, the TRC employees, along with police officers, disregarded the driver's explanation that he was the sole driver responsible for the young athletes. They confiscated his phone, leaving him unable to contact his family or the team manager for assistance. Following a military medical examination, not only was he given military identification, but he and other men staying at the hostel were also sent to the training center in Chernihiv.
Expressing his outrage, Pavlovsky asked, "Are human relations between people over? Do our children have to walk from the training ground to a hotel in another city? And what about meals? What kind of attitude is this towards children, towards Ukrainians?"
In response to the incident, Serhiy Borzov, the head of the Vinnytsia regional state administration, pledged to take immediate action and ensure the safe resolution of the children's transportation issue.
The bus company involved in the incident arranged for another driver to bring the children back to Vinnytsia. However, the new driver hesitated to pick up the keys, as they were being held at the TCC center. It was a girl from Mariupol, who had relocated to Uzhhorod following the full-scale invasion, who eventually obtained the keys on behalf of the bus company.
Adding to the alarming series of events was a video shared on November 10, featuring alleged employees of Lviv's TRC forcefully apprehending a man and forcing him into a minibus. Consequently, an investigation into the matter has been initiated.
As the situation unfolds, concerned individuals are demanding answers and accountability for such heavy-handed actions against innocent civilians, particularly when they involve athletes and children representing their region in sporting competitions.
