In a recent ruling, a British High Court judge dismissed former President Donald Trump's lawsuit against Christopher Steele and his consultancy, Orbis Business Intelligence, over the infamous Steele dossier. The dossier had alleged that Trump engaged in "perverted sexual acts" and paid bribes to Russian officials during his 2016 election campaign.

Trump had brought a claim against Steele and Orbis for alleged data protection breaches following the leak of the dossier, which contained extravagant allegations about contacts between Trump's campaign and Russian officials. However, many of these claims were never substantiated.

The court ruling, delivered by Judge Karen Steyn, did not delve into the accuracy of the dossier. Instead, the case was dismissed because it lacked a real prospect of succeeding. Trump's lawyers had argued that the allegations in the report were "egregiously inaccurate" and sought damages for the infliction of personal and reputational damage.

Judge Steyn stated that there were "no compelling reasons to allow the claim to proceed to trial" as the claim for compensation and damages was bound to fail. She also noted that the possession of copies of the dossier by Orbis could not have caused Trump distress, particularly considering that the documents were already available online.

Trump, who is currently the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, is embroiled in various legal battles in both federal and state courts in the United States. This British High Court judgment marks another setback for the former president.

While Trump continues to deny the allegations made in the dossier, his campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung, expressed disappointment in the lack of attempt by Steele and his group to justify or prove the false and defamatory allegations. Cheung reassured that Trump will persist in seeking the truth and fighting against falsehoods.

Antony White, a lawyer representing Orbis, argued that Trump has a history of bringing frivolous and meritless claims for the purpose of harassing his perceived enemies. He referred to Trump's personal attacks against Steele, whom the former president has dismissed as a "failed spy."

This ruling in the British High Court adds another chapter to the lengthy legal battles surrounding Trump and highlights the ongoing controversy surrounding the Steele dossier.
