In the aftermath of a severe snowstorm, approximately 50,000 people in Michigan are currently facing power outages as blizzard-like conditions and high winds battered the state over the past few days. As of 9 a.m. on Sunday, January 14th, roughly 30,000 customers of Consumers Energy are still without electricity. The company has deployed 463 crews to work diligently to restore power and most of the outages are expected to be resolved by the end of Sunday, according to the company's outage map.
In addition, DTE Energy reported around 26,000 customers without power as of Sunday morning. In response, thousands of DTE employees and over 900 contract linemen from across the country have been working tirelessly to bring power back to affected customers. As of now, nearly 85% of customers who experienced outages have seen their service restored, and DTE estimates that around 95% of customers will regain power by the end of the day on Sunday.
Despite ongoing efforts to restore power, Consumers Energy officials are urging affected individuals to use generators safely. The extreme weather conditions have made it crucial to consider safety precautions when operating such equipment.
Please refer to the outage maps provided by Consumers Energy and DTE Energy for additional information regarding restoration times in your specific area.
