CLEVELAND, Ohio- The Cleveland community mourns the loss of Cassandra Fear, a beloved chocolatier, social advocate, and friend-to-all, who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident over the weekend. The incident occurred on Saturday, December 16, on the 3700 block of W. 130th Street.
According to reports, Fear was involved in an accident with a parked car when she was struck by a vehicle after exiting her own vehicle. Sadly, emergency medical services pronounced her dead at the scene. The Cleveland Police have launched an investigation into the incident, but no arrests have been made as of today.
Fear, 41 years old, was the owner of Fears Confections, a small-batch artisan confectionary that initially started as a mail-order company in 2010. The business experienced remarkable growth, prompting Fear to open a brick-and-mortar shop in the Collinwood neighborhood in 2013. However, she later moved her shop to Lakewood in September 2022, commemorating its 12th anniversary with a community party and planning for expansion.
In the year that followed, Fear made the difficult decision to close her shop and pursue a position as a Cuyahoga County clerk. She also indulged her passion for singing as a member of the Siren Song Quartet in her spare time.
Known for her kindness, generosity, and social advocacy, Fear had a knack for infusing her confections with a vintage charm while incorporating nods to popular culture. Her creations included chocolate dragon eggs inspired by the HBO series "Game of Thrones" and hand-poured chocolate homages to "Star Wars," "Doctor Who," and "Dungeons & Dragons," among others. Fear's heartfelt treats brought joy to both children and adults who visited her shop.
Friends and acquaintances have taken to social media to pay tribute to Fear, describing her as kind, giving, and possessing a quirky and irreverent sense of humor. They highlighted her dedication to social advocacy and her willingness to go above and beyond for those she cared about.
Cassandra Fear's untimely death has left a void in the community she served and touched through her confectionary creations. As the investigation into the hit-and-run continues, friends, family, and customers are left to remember her as a one-of-a-kind entrepreneur with a passion for bringing joy through her chocolates.
All the products offered by Fears Confections were handmade in small batches using the freshest ingredients, without any additional preservatives. Fear's dedication to quality and her unique vintage style made her business stand out in a world of mass-produced treats.
Fear's memory will forever live on through her legacy as an advocate, entrepreneur, and chocolatier who brought a touch of sweetness and happiness to the lives of the Cleveland community.
