HOUSTON, Texas - An arrest has been made in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Idania Campos, whose lifeless body was discovered in the trunk of her own car in the Meyerland area. According to court records, 19-year-old Ariel Cruz has been charged with the heinous crime.

Campos' family, who had been desperately searching for her since her disappearance on Tuesday, made the heartbreaking discovery. Houston police later arrested Cruz after he confessed to the murder.

Family members revealed that Cruz had been at the scene, offering support to the grieving family while authorities conducted their investigation. They described Cruz as a close friend of Campos, and he had been a frequent visitor to the family's home. Houston police confirmed that Campos and Cruz were in a romantic relationship.

In a bail motion, Cruz allegedly admitted to killing Campos, citing that she had broken up with him in the past as the motive for the crime.

The Campos family had traced her phone's location to the Meyerland area, leading them to her car. Police have appealed to residents in the Meyerland neighborhood, particularly in the vicinity of Indigo Street near Braesmont Drive, to review any security camera footage between 8:20 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

Authorities were initially called to the scene on Tuesday evening, where Campos' car was discovered parked on Indigo Street. The family had located the vehicle using the information shared by Campos' phone. While the car appeared undisturbed, her phone was found inside. Houston police took a missing person's report and left the location after not finding anything suspicious.

Hours later, with the assistance of a locksmith, the family gained entry to the vehicle and made the grim discovery of Campos' lifeless body in the trunk. Law enforcement authorities returned to the scene upon being notified.

Investigators noted the presence of blood in the trunk. Although Campos had facial trauma, no shell casings were found at the scene. Lieutenant Alias Smith expressed her belief that Campos had been killed elsewhere before being left in her vehicle on Indigo Street. The family resides approximately 30 minutes away from the area.

Ariel Cruz is now in police custody and facing charges of murder in relation to the tragic death of Idania Campos. As the investigation moves forward, the community mourns the loss of a young life and seeks answers to the tragic events that unfolded on that fateful day.
