In a recently released poll, it was revealed that 48% of Arkansans approve of the job performance of Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, while 39% expressed their disapproval. These findings paint a mixed picture for the first-year Republican governor, as her approval rating is the lowest of any Arkansas governor in the past 20 years.

The Arkansas Poll, conducted by the Diane D. Blair Center of South Politics and Society at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, surveyed 801 randomly selected adult Arkansans between October 4 and October 22. The poll carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent.

Sanders' approval rating of 48% is the lowest recorded for an Arkansas governor since her father, former Republican Governor Mike Huckabee, received a 47% approval rating in 2003. However, while her approval rating may be at the lower end, it is worth noting that it compares favorably to the approval ratings of other prominent Arkansas politicians.

According to the Arkansas Poll's news release, Republican Senator Tom Cotton received an approval rating of 42%, Republican Senator John Boozman garnered 40% approval, and Democratic President Joe Biden's approval rating stood at 33%. In this context, Sanders' 48% approval rating does not appear as dire.

Sanders' disapproval rating of 39% is also significant, marking the highest disapproval rating of any governor in the poll over the past 25 years. The closest disapproval rating was recorded by Mike Huckabee, who received a 38% disapproval rating in 2003.

Responding to the poll results, Sanders' spokeswoman Alexa Henning emphasized the governor's commitment to conservative policies and the positive impact they have had on Arkansans. In a written statement, Henning stated, "Under her leadership, Arkansans have more money in their bank accounts, families have choice in their education, more Arkansans are working, and businesses are flooding to the Natural State."

Henning also highlighted the increase in optimism among Arkansans, citing a six-point rise in those who believe the state is heading in the right direction under Sanders' leadership.

While Sanders' approval rating may not be the strongest among recent Arkansas governors, it is essential to remember that approval ratings can fluctuate throughout a governor's tenure. Therefore, these poll results serve as a snapshot of public sentiment during a specific timeframe.

It remains to be seen how Sanders will navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, but for now, the poll results indicate a divided opinion among Arkansans regarding her job performance.
