A shocking incident unfolded in Glendale, Arizona, earlier this week when a religious leader, Hans Schmidt, was shot in the head while spreading the gospel on a street corner. The 26-year-old military medic and father of two young children is now fighting for his life in critical condition.

The shooting occurred on Wednesday around 6:15 p.m. in the vicinity of 51st Avenue and Peoria, according to local authorities. Schmidt had recently relocated to Arizona and was passionately preaching the Christian message and promoting an upcoming church service when the incident took place.

"This is a horrible, horrible event. We have a 26-year-old military man, recently married with two small children. He's in a critical state," expressed Gina Winn of the Glendale Police Department, as reported by FOX 10.

The Victory Chapel, where Schmidt served as the outreach director, provided an update on his condition on Friday. The church expressed that the family remained hopeful and appreciated the prayers pouring in from the community.

Authorities are currently investigating the shooting and are asking for any leads that may identify the responsible party. Glendale police spokesperson, Gina Winn, appealed to the public, stating, "51st Avenue and Peoria is a very busy intersection, so we know for a fact that there were people within the area... If you saw an individual or vehicle, you're asked to call the Glendale Police Department."

Reports indicate that Schmidt had faced hostility from some passersby while he preached, enduring hateful comments and verbal abuse. Paul Sanchez, who works nearby, shared his astonishment at the escalation of the situation, noting that it was hard to believe someone would resort to violence.

Another witness, Jesse James, the owner of Jesse James Comics, expressed disbelief and shock after being asked by the police to move his vehicle following the shooting.

Police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the incident. However, they believe there are additional witnesses who may have vital information about the attack.

"We believe there is someone in the Valley who knows what happened. If you saw an individual or vehicle, you're asked to call the Glendale Police Department," urged Winn.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and help bring justice to Hans Schmidt and his family. Anyone with information can contact the Glendale Police Department or provide an anonymous tip to Silent Witness.

This unforeseen act of violence has left the community in shock and has led many to reflect on the importance of safety precautions and being aware of their surroundings in heavily trafficked areas.

As the prayers and support for Hans Schmidt pour in, the community remains hopeful for his recovery while continuing to show solidarity in the face of this tragic incident.
