Alleged Israeli airstrikes targeted sites in southern Syria and near Damascus on Thursday night in two separate waves, according to Syrian reports. Syria's state news agency SANA reported that Israeli fighter jets conducted airstrikes from over the Golan Heights, causing material damage.
During the first wave of airstrikes, Israeli fighter jets targeted sites in southern Syria, resulting in material damage. The strikes reportedly hit a radar site belonging to the Syrian Army at Tal al-Sahn, near the Syrian-Jordanian border. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from this attack. It is worth noting that the Tal al-Sahn site has been previously targeted by alleged Israeli airstrikes.
Shortly after the initial wave of airstrikes, a second round was reported in the Damascus area. Syrian air defenses were activated in response to the attacks. The second wave of airstrikes was reportedly conducted from over Lebanon and targeted multiple sites near the capital, causing material damage. The specific locations in the Damascus area that were targeted are yet to be determined.
These recent alleged Israeli airstrikes in Syria follow the killing of Razi Mousavi, a senior officer in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in the Damascus area. Mousavi was targeted in an alleged Israeli airstrike, as he played a significant role in Iran's efforts in Syria. The airstrikes also come just a day after the Damascus International Airport resumed its services, following an alleged Israeli airstrike that had rendered it out of service since late November.
The overall frequency of alleged Israeli airstrikes in Syria has raised concerns about escalating tensions in the region. The Syrian government has repeatedly condemned these attacks, labeling them as acts of aggression. Israel, on the other hand, has maintained that it is acting in self-defense, targeting sites that pose threats to its national security.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation or statement from Israeli authorities regarding the alleged airstrikes. The situation remains fluid, and it is unclear how these recent developments will impact the already volatile situation in the region. International stakeholders continue to closely monitor the situation, urging restraint and diplomatic efforts to deescalate tensions.
