Actor Pierce Brosnan, 70, is set to face legal consequences after allegedly violating policies at Yellowstone National Park. The U.S. District Court of Wyoming docket reveals that Brosnan was cited for two offenses: "foot travel in all thermal areas and w/in Yellowstone Canyon confined to trails" and "violating closures and use limits." The charges, considered petty offenses, were issued to Brosnan on November 1 but were officially filed in court on Tuesday.
According to Fox News Digital, Brosnan is scheduled to appear at the Yellowstone Justice Center in Mammoth, Wyoming on January 23. Despite the confirmation of the citations, no immediate response has been received from Brosnan's representatives regarding the matter.
The regulations for Yellowstone National Park's thermal areas explicitly state that traversing through such areas after dark is strictly prohibited. Additional rules include the prohibition of livestock in thermal regions, forbidding the alteration or placement of objects in thermal features, and disallowing swimming, soaking, or bathing in water solely consisting of thermal origin.
Yellowstone National Park, known for its spectacular geothermal activity, boasts over 500 active geysers. The park's website warns visitors about the potential dangers of walking through thermal areas, emphasizing the unpredictability of the terrain. The ground above hot springs may possess only a thin crust, and the formation of new hazards overnight is not uncommon. Furthermore, the pools in these thermal areas are acidic enough to cause damage even to footwear. To ensure visitor safety, the park service has established designated walking areas and boardwalks for easier and safer access to thermal features.
It remains uncertain whether Brosnan will face criminal charges for his alleged infractions. However, as per the Department of Justice, if found guilty, Brosnan could potentially face fines and/or a maximum sentence of six months in jail.
As the court date approaches, attention will undoubtedly focus on how the legal proceedings unfold for the renowned actor. Yellowstone National Park, beloved for its natural wonders, serves as a reminder that following park guidelines is essential to ensuring the safety and preservation of its unique environment.
