The verdict was reached on Monday, with the nine-person jury delivering its decision on two of the four counts brought against Majors.
The trial centered around a March 25 altercation between Majors and Jabbari, as alleged by Manhattan prosecutors. Jabbari testified that she had discovered a text message on Majors' phone from another woman, which led to a confrontation. According to her account, she grabbed his phone and was subsequently subjected to physical assault.
Throughout the trial, Jabbari's testimony painted a picture of an abusive relationship, with her expressing fear of Majors and concern over potential self-harm should she leave him. Prosecutors described the incident as Majors slapping Jabbari in the face and fracturing her middle finger after she took his phone.
Street surveillance footage shown during the trial captured Jabbari exiting an SUV, with Majors then picking her up and forcefully placing her back inside the vehicle, leading prosecutors to claim that he threw her back "like a football."
However, Majors, 34, has consistently maintained his innocence, as communicated by his attorney Priya Chaudhry. His defense team argued that Majors was actually the victim in the altercation and suffered scratches. Chaudhry also highlighted that Jabbari went out dancing with strangers after the incident, insinuating that her actions were contradictory to the alleged assault.
Alongside their defense, Majors' legal team suggested that the racial dynamics between the parties involved may have influenced the arrest, with Majors being Black and Jabbari being white. This contention was not directly addressed in the trial proceedings.
The two-week trial culminated in Majors being found guilty of misdemeanor assault and harassment. The actor did not testify during the trial, while Jabbari took the stand for several days.
The verdict carries potential consequences for Majors' personal and professional life. Sentencing is expected to take place at a later date, with the actor's legal team likely to explore avenues for appeal. This case serves as a reminder of the ongoing importance of addressing and addressing domestic violence allegations, regardless of the stature of the individuals involved.
