SAN FRANCISCO - In a courtroom on Monday, Paul Pelosi, the 83-year-old husband of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, provided a chilling account of a violent attack that took place in their home last fall. The attack, orchestrated by David DePape, a Canadian citizen living in the San Francisco Bay Area, has now led to federal charges of kidnapping and assault. As the prosecution wrapped up its case, Pelosi detailed the night of terror that left him with severe head injuries.

Describing the harrowing incident, Paul Pelosi testified that a large intruder stormed into their residence, wielding a hammer and zip ties. The assailant demanded to know the whereabouts of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, leaving Paul Pelosi fearing for his life. Despite the grave danger, Pelosi managed to maintain a calm demeanor and secretly placed a distress call to the police from the bathroom.

This marked Paul Pelosi's first public account of the attack that occurred in October 2022. As police responded to the break-in, DePape struck Pelosi in the head with a hammer, resulting in a fractured skull. Meanwhile, the congresswoman was stationed in Washington during the incident and has not been called as a witness in the trial.

David DePape, 43, now faces federal charges of assault and kidnapping in a trial that could reach the jury by the middle of the week. Throughout Pelosi's testimony, DePape appeared visibly uneasy, repeatedly blinking and avoiding eye contact. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and could potentially face a life sentence if convicted.

Investigations revealed that DePape had arrived at the Pelosi residence armed with zip ties, equipped with a plan to attack the former House speaker. During interrogations, he admitted that he intended to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and resort to violence if she did not acknowledge the false claim that former President Donald Trump had won the 2020 election.

Paul Pelosi, still grappling with the aftermath of the attack, recounted waking up in a pool of blood and being quickly transported to the hospital for treatment. Emotionally moved, he shared the lingering effects of the ordeal, including persistent headaches, dizziness, and a reluctance to discuss the traumatic experience with others.

As the trial progresses, the jury will soon deliberate on the fate of David DePape, who potentially faces a life sentence if found guilty. The chilling testimony by Paul Pelosi serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by high-profile political figures and their loved ones, emphasizing the importance of security and vigilance in an increasingly volatile political climate.
