A tragic two-car crash on Christmas morning in Middletown resulted in the death of a 74-year-old woman, identified as Verona Facey from Brooklyn, New York. The incident occurred on I-91 North, near Exits 20, just after 9 a.m., according to state police.

The crash occurred when the vehicle in the far right lane of the northbound lanes suddenly veered into the center lane, colliding with another car. The impact caused both vehicles to lose control, veer off the road, and roll over in the grassy center median.

Sadly, Verona Facey was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Two other individuals who were traveling with Facey suffered minor injuries and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Fortunately, the driver of the other car involved in the crash escaped without any injuries, as confirmed by the authorities.

Following the accident, the northbound lanes of I-91 had to be closed for several hours to allow for a thorough investigation. Traffic was rerouted off of Exit 20, causing significant delays and inconveniences for motorists.

As of now, state police have not provided an estimate of how long the highway closure might last. However, they are urging drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until further notice.

This unfortunate incident underscores the need for cautious driving, especially during the holiday season when roads tend to be busier. Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the crash, and it remains to be seen whether any charges will be filed in relation to the incident.

As the investigation continues, our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of Verona Facey.
