LAS VEGAS, Nev. - U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen has announced that $3 billion in funding has been secured to begin construction of the Las Vegas to Southern California high-speed rail project. The funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, according to a news release.
The Brightline West high-speed rail system aims to connect Las Vegas and Southern California, offering various benefits to the region. One of the key advantages of the project is the potential to bolster Southern Nevada's tourism economy while reducing congestion on the Interstate 15 corridor.
According to estimates by Brightline West, the high-speed rail is expected to eliminate 3 million cars from I-15 annually. This reduction in traffic will not only alleviate congestion but also result in a significant environmental impact by reducing over 400,000 tons of carbon emissions each year.
Furthermore, the project is set to create approximately 35,000 good-paying, union jobs, which will benefit the local workforce. This development has been hailed as a game-changer for Nevada's tourism economy and transportation infrastructure.
In a statement, Senator Jacky Rosen expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, "This historic high-speed rail project will be a game-changer for Nevada's tourism economy and transportation. It'll bring more visitors to our state, reduce traffic on the I-15, create thousands of good-paying jobs, and decrease carbon emissions, all while relying on local union labor."
Senator Rosen has been a vocal advocate for the high-speed rail project, leading efforts to secure funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The realization of the project is seen as a fulfillment of decades of Nevadans' aspirations for high-speed rail.
The Brightline West project is expected to serve as a blueprint for future endeavors, showcasing the potential for true high-speed rail travel in America. The vision of American-made, American-built, state-of-the-art high-speed train travel has garnered the confidence of President Biden, Secretary Buttigieg, and other key stakeholders.
With the funding now secured, the project is set to commence construction and transform the transportation landscape between Las Vegas and Southern California. Stakeholders, including Brightline West, are ready to embark on the journey of bringing their vision to reality and creating a new industry in the process.
The high-speed rail project holds significant promise for Nevada's economy, environmental sustainability, and job creation. As progress builds, the anticipated completion of this transformative infrastructure project will undoubtedly be eagerly awaited by residents and visitors alike.
