### Zak Kuhr Steps Up as Patriots Inside Linebackers Coach Amid DC Terrell Williams' Health Concerns
FOXBORO — Although Zak Kuhr is officially designated as the Patriots' inside linebackers coach, his responsibilities have recently expanded. This shift comes as the team's defensive coordinator, Terrell Williams, has been temporarily sidelined from in-person duties due to health-related issues. Despite being able to communicate via Zoom, Williams needed someone to handle his responsibilities on the ground, and head coach Mike Vrabel entrusted Kuhr with this crucial role.
"Essentially, I serve as an extension of both T and Vrabes," Kuhr explained. "T and I continue to meet and talk every single day, ensuring we are always aligned. While it's my voice delivering the message, it truly comes from the team’s leadership. There's a bit more to manage in practice, but fundamentally, I'm carrying out his vision."
Williams has been vocal about his high regard for Kuhr, describing him as "an unbelievably smart guy" who possesses the potential to become a major name in the league. Williams highlighted Kuhr's intelligence and his exceptional ability to connect with players.
Kuhr, who previously worked with Williams in Tennessee under Vrabel, echoed this mutual respect. Speaking to NBC Sports Boston, Kuhr praised Williams’ intellect, personality, and his ability to forge strong relationships with players. "Terrell is the best—smart, personable, and capable of coaching hard while maintaining strong player connections," said Kuhr.
Kuhr's leadership appears to be solidifying the team's defense. In the open practices covered by reporters, the defense has notably stymied the offense, even with key players like safety Kyle Dugger and corner Carlton Davis being limited or absent. During an early practice, quarterback Drake Maye was intercepted four times within his first nine attempts, demonstrating the defense’s disruptive potential.
Though it’s still early in the offseason, the Patriots' defensive unit showcases talent across all levels. If they continue on this trajectory, they could be a crucial factor in improving the team’s disappointing 4-13 record from last season.
