The Carolina Panthers have made a significant change by benching starting quarterback Bryce Young following a rocky start to the NFL season. Despite his high expectations as the 2023 No. 1 overall pick, Young's performance led to his removal from the starting position after just 18 career starts. In his place, seasoned veteran Andy Dalton will make his 164th start today against a formidable Raiders team in Las Vegas.

Head coach Dave Canales justified the decision to bench Young, emphasizing the team's need to enhance their playstyle and competitiveness against strong opponents like the Raiders. Canales stressed the importance of accountability within the organization and implied that Young needed some time away from the field to reassess and learn from watching Dalton in action.

Although Young's career as a starter has been challenging with a 2-16 record and subpar passing statistics, the Panthers organization still believes in his potential to excel as a quarterback in the NFL. Young's struggles on the field, including hesitations in passing and decision-making, led to the decision to give him a break and work on his development off the field. The team views this as a temporary timeout for Young, rather than a long-term benching, to help him improve and eventually reclaim his starting role.
