In an interview with IGN, Xbox chief Phil Spencer has revealed that Microsoft will be releasing more of their own games on rival platforms such as the PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Nintendo Switch. This statement follows Microsoft's previous announcement that four Xbox-exclusive games would be launching on the PS5 and some on the Switch.

Spencer clarified Microsoft's commitment to Xbox customers, stating, "You are going to see more of our games on more platforms." He emphasized that Microsoft sees expanding their game library to other screens as a benefit to the franchises they are building, taking into account the preferences of players who enjoy the opportunity to play on different platforms.

This confirmation comes after months of speculation, as Spencer had previously denied any change to Microsoft's strategy of Xbox exclusives. Earlier this year, he stated in an Xbox podcast, "We made a decision that we're going to take four games to the other consoles, just four games. Not a change to our fundamental exclusive strategy."

During a recent showcase event, Microsoft unveiled a collection of new Xbox games, including titles like Doom: The Dark Ages and Gears of War: E-Day. Notably, the company refrained from using the term "exclusive" throughout the event, which has been observed in previous communications by Microsoft.

The absence of exclusivity mentions raises questions about Microsoft's intentions and a potential shift in their strategy. For example, last year, Microsoft-owned Arkane Lyon revealed their Blade game without specifying Xbox exclusivity. Similarly, when Bethesda's new Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game was announced earlier this year, launch platforms were confirmed for Xbox and PC, but exclusivity was not mentioned. Rumors suggest that Microsoft may even consider launching Indiana Jones on the PS5 some months after the initial Xbox launch.

All these decisions appear to be part of a secretive project within Microsoft called "Project Latitude," which was recently detailed in Tom Warren's weekly Notepad newsletter. Project Latitude involves Microsoft considering the release of a number of games on rival platforms, including the recently-released Senua's Saga: Hellblade II game.

During the showcase event, IGN did not press Spencer further on the Xbox multiplatform plans, and Microsoft opted not to mention rival platforms in their presentations. Instead, the focus was on an impressive lineup of game trailers, making it one of the most captivating Xbox showcases in recent years.

As Microsoft continues to expand its reach beyond the Xbox console, fans can anticipate more gaming experiences from the company's renowned franchises arriving on platforms beyond their own in the near future.
