In a sorrowful event, the world's oldest conjoined twins, Lori and George Schappell, have sadly passed away at the age of 62. Born on September 18, 1961, in Pennsylvania, USA, the pair were conjoined at the head, facing in opposite directions. They held the unique distinction of being the oldest living conjoined twins in the world.

Lori and George's rare condition involved their skulls being connected, which resulted in them sharing a blood supply and approximately 30 percent of their brain. This form of conjoined twins is extremely uncommon, constituting only 2 to 6 percent of all cases. Despite their physical connection, the twins had individual lives, pursuing separate hobbies within their own room while the other would find solace in their own thoughts.

One of the notable aspects of their lives was their independent romantic experiences. Lori shared that during dates, George would bring books along and as they did not face each other, he could easily ignore any moments of intimacy. Additionally, Lori had become engaged at one point, but tragedy struck when her fiancé passed away in a car accident. During this difficult time, George provided unwavering support, helping Lori navigate the heartbreak.

Against all odds, the Schappell twins went on to surpass the expectations of medical professionals who initially believed they might not live to see their 30th birthday. It was in 2007 that George bravely came out as a transgender man, having known from a young age that he should have been assigned male at birth. Despite the shock, Lori expressed unwavering pride and support for her brother's decision to live as his true self.

The story of Lori and George Schappell is one of resilience, independence, and sibling love. They defied the limitations imposed by their condition, proving that even in the face of adversity, one can lead a fulfilling life. The world mourns the loss of these extraordinary individuals, whose journey inspired many.
