In a precautionary move, Snapchill LLC, a Wisconsin-based company, is issuing a voluntary recall of nearly 300 types of canned coffee products distributed across the United States. The recall comes after the company discovered that its manufacturing process may pose a risk of botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has alerted consumers about the potential growth and production of botulinum toxin in low acid canned foods manufactured by Snapchill LLC. Botulism is a rare but serious illness that can result in difficulty breathing, muscle paralysis, and even death. Symptoms of botulism may appear anywhere from six hours to two weeks after consuming food contaminated with the toxin, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The recalled products, sold under various roaster and brand names, were packaged in metal cans ranging from 7 oz to 12 oz. To identify the affected products, consumers should look for the language "Produced and distributed by Snapchill LLC" underneath the nutrition facts panel or the text "Snapchill Coffee" on the label. A complete list of the recalled products can be found on the FDA's website.
It is important to note that no illnesses have been reported thus far in connection with the recalled products, and Snapchill LLC is not aware of any products containing the toxin. However, as a precautionary measure, consumers who have purchased these items are strongly advised to either destroy them or return them to Snapchill or the place of purchase for a refund.
The recall serves as a proactive step by Snapchill LLC to prioritize the safety and well-being of its consumers. The company is cooperating with the FDA's efforts to remove the potentially contaminated products from the market.
Consumers are urged to exercise caution and remain vigilant about the recalled canned coffee products. The FDA assures the public that they will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
