In a strong response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's claims, the White House has dismissed any connection between the recent ISIS-K attack in Moscow and Ukraine. John Kirby, national security communications adviser, categorically condemned the "nonsense and propaganda" coming from the Kremlin regarding the tragic terrorist attack at the concert hall, which claimed the lives of over 140 people.
Contrary to Putin's statements, Kirby emphasized that ISIS was solely responsible for the horrific incident. He criticized those trying to shift blame onto Ukraine, the United States, and others, stating that it was abundantly clear that ISIS-K had orchestrated the attack.
Putin admitted on Monday that the attackers were "radical Islamists," but he later suggested the possibility of the attack benefiting Ukraine, claiming that the assailants were fleeing towards the country.
However, U.S. intelligence firmly supports the conclusion that ISIS-K, the Afghanistan affiliate of the Islamic State group, carried out the attack. Kirby reiterated that ISIS bears full responsibility for the tragedy.
Kirby, drawing on a personal analogy, referred to Russian officials as "manure salesmen," implying their attempts to deflect blame. He added that the attack underscored Russia's failure to protect against such threats and heed warnings from the U.S.
The United States had provided information to Russian authorities beforehand, alerting them to the threat. They also issued a written warning to Russia and advised American citizens to avoid large gatherings and concerts in Moscow. Kirby emphasized that the U.S. takes seriously its duty to provide timely warnings to prevent innocent lives from being lost in terrorist attacks.
The White House's fiery refutation highlights the ongoing tensions between Russia and the United States, while shedding light on the need for better cooperation in countering the threat of terrorism.
