**Stephen Curry Sidelined with Left Ankle Injury, Warriors to Rely on Depth**
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry will be absent for the next two games due to a left peroneal strain, according to a team announcement on Monday. This injury occurred during Sunday night’s home opener against the Los Angeles Clippers when Curry twisted his ankle in the third quarter. He initially returned to the game in the fourth quarter but had to leave again after re-twisting the same ankle, walking back to the locker room with assistance and a noticeable limp.
After the game, head coach Steve Kerr described Curry's injury as "mild or moderate" based on the player’s own assessment. An MRI conducted on Monday morning confirmed no significant damage, and Curry is expected to be re-evaluated on Friday.
Adding to the Warriors' injury woes, guard De'Anthony Melton will miss the upcoming games against the New Orleans Pelicans due to right facet inflammation in his back. Melton, who missed 44 games last season with the Philadelphia 76ers due to similar back issues, also underwent an MRI which showed no structural damage.
Furthermore, Andrew Wiggins is listed as questionable for Tuesday’s game with a back strain. Coach Kerr noted that Wiggins' back soreness was not the result of a specific incident but rather a gradual flare-up.
The Warriors are now counting on their team depth to compensate for these key absences. Guard Brandin Podziemski expressed his readiness to step up, stating he trained to play 35 to 40 minutes per game during the offseason. Similarly, Buddy Hield is prepared to contribute with his speed and energy.
In response to the injuries, Coach Kerr mentioned plans to adjust the starting lineup and rotation within the next 24 hours. Lindy Waters III, initially not expected to be part of the main rotation, will see more playing time. Additionally, Pat Spencer, who is on a two-way contract, will be activated for upcoming games. Draymond Green and Kyle Anderson are also expected to take on increased play-making and ball-handling responsibilities in Curry's absence.
The Warriors will have to leverage their depth and teamwork to navigate this challenging period without their star guard on the court.
