5 million. In its second weekend, the sci-fi epic added an impressive $81 million from 72 international markets, with only a 36% drop in holdovers.

Meanwhile, Universal/DreamWorks Animation's "Kung Fu Panda 4" made a strong debut as it began its staggered overseas rollout. The fourth installment of the popular franchise opened to $22.2 million in 41 markets, representing just 23% of the international landscape. This contributed to a solid global debut of $80.5 million. The film will continue to expand into more markets in the coming weeks to coincide with holiday play, including its highly anticipated release in China on March 22.

Notably, "Kung Fu Panda 4" had a bigger offshore start, excluding previews, compared to its predecessors "Kung Fu Panda 2" and "Kung Fu Panda 3" in similar markets at current exchange rates. The film also outperformed box office hits like "Ice Age: Collision Course" and "Zootopia," becoming the biggest opening weekend of the year for a studio movie in a total of 32 markets.

Among the standout performances, Spain led the way with a $3 million opening, including previews. The film recorded the second biggest opening day of the year and the best for an animated title since last summer's "Elemental." Additionally, other markets such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Poland delivered strong numbers, surpassing previous franchise titles and setting new records for animated film debuts.

Turning back to "Dune: Part Two," the film continues to captivate audiences worldwide. With its $81 million international haul, the movie now stands at $210.5 million overseas, inching closer to the $400 million mark globally. In like-for-like markets and using current exchange rates, "Dune: Part Two" is tracking 64% ahead of its predecessor, 43% higher than "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," 36% over "Godzilla Vs Kong," and on par with "The Batman."

China, an important market for international releases, proved to be a significant success for "Dune: Part Two." The film debuted with an estimated RMB 142.1 million ($20 million), ranking as the second-biggest release in the market just behind the Taiwanese film "The Pig, The Snake and The Pigeon." This opening weekend figure is the biggest for a Hollywood film in 2024, marking the best opening weekend ever for director Denis Villeneuve and actor Timothée Chalamet. Notably, IMAX China accounted for a significant portion of the film's success, generating $6.5 million, or 33% of the total box office.

In terms of global performance, "Dune: Part Two" continues to dominate the international box office. The film ranked as the number one film in 57 released overseas markets and as the top U.S. title in 60 markets. Notable drops in key markets include France (-17%), Germany (-19%), Taiwan (-22%), Brazil (-23%), and Spain (-27%), indicating the enduring popularity of the film among audiences.

In the IMAX format, "Dune: Part Two" showed remarkable resilience, only dipping by 15% globally. It grossed $27.7 million from 1,600 screens, with the international portion amounting to $16.6 million, down just 25% from markets that opened the previous weekend. The film's international cume now stands at $35.8 million, contributing to its global total of $72.4 million.

As "Dune: Part Two" continues to captivate audiences worldwide, it has become one of the top-grossing films of the year. With its strong international performance and upcoming release in Japan, the film's momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
