Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler has finally secured a win in the big leagues after nearly two years of battling a twice-repaired ligament in his right elbow. The right-hander delivered a remarkable performance, pitching six scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

Buehler recognized that patience and adaptation were key in his recovery journey. Despite not pitching in the major leagues for 23 months, Buehler found small victories along the way. Against Miami, he regained confidence in his velocity, and in San Diego, his warm-up routine improved.

Now, the 29-year-old is embracing a transition towards listening to others rather than solely relying on his own instincts. Buehler acknowledged that this change has been challenging but necessary for his growth. His ability to adapt and understand his body's capabilities will determine his success moving forward.

In his latest ventures, Buehler worked closely with pitching coaches Mark Prior, Connor McGuiness, and Josh Bard in San Francisco. They suggested adjusting his position on the pitching rubber, moving slightly closer to the center. Although the ensuing bullpen session did not go as planned, the idea had merit. Buehler had always relied on the edge of the rubber to generate power, but post-surgery, this approach was no longer effective.

Undeterred by the setbacks, Buehler made the adjustment in his latest start against the Reds. Sliding his foot closer to the center of the rubber, he showcased a glimpse of his former self. Despite a slight decrease in fastball velocity, Buehler struck out seven batters, didn't issue any walks, and kept the Reds from reaching base until the third inning.

Buehler encountered a minor hiccup in the fifth inning when an outfield collision occurred, but he recovered swiftly. With poise, Buehler induced a pop out and a groundball, successfully escaping the potential threat. His ability to navigate challenging situations has earned praise from fellow players, including Freddie Freeman of the Atlanta Braves, who attested to Buehler's trustworthiness in crucial moments.

Manager Dave Roberts noticed a change in Buehler's approach as he focused on location rather than overpowering dominance. Roberts applauded Buehler for pitching strategically and making quality pitches against major-league hitters.

As Buehler continues his journey towards consistency, he recognizes the importance of self-discovery. Having once been defined by his unwavering confidence, the pitcher understands that his path back to success will require adjustments. Buehler is also adapting to the Dodgers' modified starting pitcher schedule, allowing for longer recovery periods and ultimately prioritizing player health.

With his recent win and encouraging performance, Buehler's determination to adapt and listen to advice will be essential moving forward. The talented pitcher remains confident that he can tap into his former brilliance and excel on the biggest stages once again.
