A 20-year-old Virginia Tech student, Johnny Roop, has been reported missing since Friday. The senior at the university's business college was last seen at his apartment complex in Merrimac in Montgomery County. Roop's phone pinged near the New River Valley Mall on Friday afternoon, as he was en route to his parent's house in Abingdon, Virginia, to take an online exam. He never arrived at his destination.

Authorities believe Roop left Montgomery County by himself on Friday afternoon and likely headed southwest towards Abingdon. Surveillance video captured him in Montgomery County around 3:30 p.m. that same day. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office stated that Roop's behavior on Friday appeared inconsistent with his usual patterns, but there is no immediate indication that he is in danger. They are seeking to contact him to ensure his well-being.

Roop drives a black 2018 Toyota Camry with a Virginia Tech flag sticker on the rear window, bearing license plate number TXW6643.
