The Minnesota Vikings have made their final cuts and reduced their roster to 53 players ahead of the 2024 NFL season. In order to meet the Tuesday's 3 p.m. (CT) deadline, the Vikings have utilized Reserve Lists to make necessary adjustments.
One notable player placed on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list is tight end T.J. Hockenson. While Hockenson will not count against the 53-player limit, he will be required to sit out the first four games of the upcoming season.
Linebacker Jordan Kunaszyk has been placed on Injured Reserve, while outside linebacker Gabriel Murphy and guard Dalton Risner have been placed on Injured Reserve-Designated for Return. According to the NFL policy, teams must choose from various options for players categorized as Active/Physically Unable to Perform or Active/Non-Football Injury or Illness.
The Vikings have also waived several players as part of their final roster reductions. As per league rules, each team can designate a maximum of two players for return from an applicable Reserve list throughout the season. However, any player placed on the Reserve/PUP list before roster reductions is required to miss the entire season.
It is worth noting that teams making the playoffs are allotted a maximum of 10 players to designate for return. These designated players, even if they do not return to practice, count against a team's maximum of eight players for the entire season.
With their roster finalized, the Vikings are now set to embark on the 2024 season with a competitive lineup. The team's strategic utilization of the Reserve Lists aims to maximize player availability and provide necessary support for a successful campaign.
The Minnesota Vikings are ready to showcase their talent and challenge their opponents as they look to make a deep playoff run in the upcoming season.
