22-year-old USWNT and Chelsea forward Mia Fishel has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during national team training on Monday, leading to her omission from the CONCACAF Gold Cup roster. The injury to her right knee has prompted Fishel to begin a rehabilitation program at Chelsea's Cobham training ground. The spot left vacant by Fishel has been filled by seasoned forward Alex Morgan, who will be featuring in the USWNT's Gold Cup opener against the Dominican Republic on Tuesday.

U.S. interim head coach Twila Kilgore expressed disappointment over Fishel's injury, praising her impact and work ethic within the team. Kilgore believes Fishel's resilience will see her return stronger and potentially compete in the upcoming World Cup. In the meantime, the inclusion of Alex Morgan, who was initially omitted from the roster, brings a wealth of experience and skill to the USWNT for the Gold Cup campaign.

Fishel's ACL injury is the second blow to Chelsea's forward line this season, following Sam Kerr's sidelining during a training camp in January. The CONCACAF Gold Cup will feature 12 teams, including eight from CONCACAF and four guest nations: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Paraguay. The U.S. team is set to face Argentina and Mexico in their remaining group stage fixtures.

The dynamic of the USWNT lineup shifts with Fishel's injury and Morgan's addition, promising an exciting journey ahead in the Gold Cup competition.
