The United States men's and women's soccer teams have learned their opponents for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. The draw took place on Wednesday, revealing challenging matchups for both sides.

In the men's competition, the USMNT finds themselves in Group A alongside host nation France, New Zealand, and the winner of a playoff between teams from the Asian Football Confederation and the African Football Confederation. This marks the first time since Beijing 2008 that the USMNT will compete in the Olympics. The group will be coached by Thierry Henry, adding further intrigue to the matchups.

On the women's side, the USWNT faces a difficult road as they were drawn against Germany and Australia, ranked fifth and 12th in the world respectively. Completing their group will be either Zambia or Morocco, who will face each other in an African playoff next month. The USWNT, led by new coach Emma Hayes, aims to bounce back from their disappointing last-16 exit at the 2023 World Cup.

The USWNT has a storied history at the Olympics, winning gold four times between 1996 and 2012. However, their quest for glory ended in a quarter-final defeat at the hands of Sweden in 2016, where they settled for the bronze medal. Germany, the reigning Olympic champions from 2016, will prove to be a formidable opponent for the USWNT. The Americans have faced Germany once before at the Olympics, defeating them in the 2004 semi-finals.

In the women's draw, holders Canada will face hosts France, Colombia, and New Zealand in Group A. Group C will see Brazil and Japan compete against the winner of a playoff between Nigeria and South Africa. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarter-finals.

In the men's draw, each team will bring a 22-man roster, with players required to be under-23, except for three who can surpass the age limit. The participation of French star Kylian Mbappé remains uncertain due to a potential transfer to Real Madrid. Real Madrid has indicated that they will not release their players for the Games, but an exception might be made for Mbappé, who would be a key player for France.

The Olympic soccer tournament will kick off two days before the opening ceremony on July 24 and will conclude with the women's final on August 10. This marks the first time that the women's final will conclude the soccer tournament, adding another historic aspect to the event.

With challenging opponents ahead, both the USMNT and USWNT will have to display their skill, determination, and teamwork to achieve success in the Olympic Games.
