**Walgreens in New Albany Set to Close Permanently by December 5**
A Walgreens located at the intersection of Spring Street and Vincennes Street in New Albany, Indiana, is slated to shut its doors permanently before the year concludes. According to signage posted on its entrance, the closure is scheduled for December 5, with the pharmacy ceasing operations at 3 p.m. on that day.
Patients need not worry about their prescriptions, as all records will be seamlessly transferred to nearby Walgreens locations. The store at 2755 Charlestown Road is one of the specified alternatives for customers to obtain their medications.
This closure is part of a broader initiative by Walgreens to shutter 1,200 stores over the upcoming three years, driven by increased competition from online retailers and lower reimbursement rates for prescriptions. In the coming year alone, about 500 Walgreens stores will close their doors. Projections suggest that nearly one in seven Walgreens stores will be closed by 2027.
As of now, there is no clear information on whether more Walgreens stores in or around the Louisville area will face similar fates.
