**Jay Wright Unlikely to Coach Knicks Despite Speculation, Says Colleague Seth Davis**
After the New York Knicks parted ways with head coach Tom Thibodeau, speculation quickly surfaced that former Villanova coach Jay Wright might step into the role. However, Seth Davis, Wright's colleague at CBS, has dismissed this idea, sharing that based on their conversations, it is highly unlikely.
Davis took to social media to clarify the situation. "I have been working with Jay Wright on TV for three years," Davis wrote in an X post on Tuesday. "Based on every conversation we have had, I would say there is a greater chance that I will be the next Knicks coach than him. The difference is if they call me, I will say yes."
Wright, who retired from Villanova in 2022 after 21 successful seasons, cited a loss of the "edge" required to coach at the highest level when he stepped away. Though currently working as an analyst for CBS, Wright has been linked to the Knicks following the team's elimination by the Indiana Pacers.
Back in a 2020 interview on "Pardon My Take," Wright mentioned that his dream job would be coaching the Knicks, but he quickly clarified that he was joking. Despite the playful comment, oddsmakers like DraftKings have placed him as a long shot for the position, further complicated by reports that top candidate Michael Malone is not in the running.
Any new coach stepping into the Knicks' role will face significant pressure. The team made it to the conference finals for the first time since 2000, and with Jayson Tatum potentially missing the 2025-26 season due to a torn Achilles, the Eastern Conference landscape may be more open than usual. The Knicks will be expected to build on their recent success and contend for a championship.
