A University of Colorado - Colorado Springs student, Nicholas Jordan, 25, has been arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of his roommate, Samuel Knopp, 24, and Celie Rain Montgomery, 26. The tragic incident occurred on Feb. 16 in their shared dorm room.
Court documents revealed that Jordan allegedly threatened Knopp weeks before the shooting, stating he would "kill him" if asked to take out the trash again. The situation escalated after an argument over a bag of trash, highlighting underlying tensions between the roommates.
The third roommate, Giancarlo Argueta-Agudelo, reported significant issues with Jordan's smoking habits and living area cleanliness, which were documented with the university. This discontent culminated in the fatal shooting, with Argueta-Agudelo waking up to gunshots on the day of the incident.
Police found Knopp and Montgomery shot multiple times in the dorm room. Jordan was arrested with an AK-47-style assault rifle and a handgun in his possession. Following his arrest, Jordan made his first court appearance. A status conference has been scheduled for March 15 to further address the case.
The tragic events highlight the serious consequences of unresolved conflicts, shedding light on the importance of addressing roommate disputes before they escalate to violence.
