In a new development in the search for missing University of Missouri student Riley Strain, Metro Nashville Police announced on Sunday afternoon that his bank card had been discovered on the embankment of the Cumberland River. This comes one week after Strain was reported missing while on a fraternity trip in downtown Nashville.
The last known whereabouts of the 22-year-old Mizzou senior was at Luke Bryan's bar, Luke's 32 Bridge, on Friday, March 8. According to TC Restaurant Group, Strain was asked to leave the venue after being served only one alcoholic beverage and two waters. Security personnel escorted him out through the Broadway exit, accompanied by one member of his party. However, the individual with Riley did not exit and returned upstairs.
It was on Saturday, March 9, when a friend of Strain called 911 after he went to the Central Police Precinct to file a missing person's report. Since then, Strain's family from Springfield, Missouri, has been actively involved in the search, remaining in Nashville throughout the week. Strain's stepfather, Chris Whiteid, expressed their desperation, stating, "It's been a week, we haven't heard his voice, we haven't gotten a text from him. We're ready... So, yeah, it's time, it's time to bring him home."
Although some surveillance cameras captured Strain making his way through downtown towards the Metro Courthouse, there are gaps and cameras pointed in the wrong direction, making it difficult to pinpoint his exact location. Tragically, a lead was lost when it was discovered that Strain's Apple Watch location services had never been set up.
The Nashville Office of Emergency Management conducted an extensive search alongside the Cumberland River using drones, canines, boats, and divers. However, the family does not believe Strain is in the water. Chris Whiteid shared, "As much searching as we've done along the river, along the hillside, talking to people, we don't believe that that's where he's at. We feel like either he slept for a few hours and got up and started wandering again, or was picked up by a car. We don't know."
Despite the challenging circumstances, Strain's family finds solace in the kindness and support of others. Friends, family, and even strangers have been actively involved in the search, traveling to Nashville to distribute flyers and assist with the investigation.
As the search for Riley Strain enters its second week, his family remains hopeful for his safe return. Strain is described as 6'5" with a slender build, blonde hair, and blue eyes. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the Metro Nashville Police Department at 615-862-8600.
