NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The search for 22-year-old University of Missouri student, Riley Strain, who disappeared during a fraternity trip in Nashville, took a significant turn as his bank card was discovered on an embankment by the Cumberland River, more than a week after his disappearance.
Surveillance video from Downtown Smoke & Vape Shop on Church Street provided crucial information about Strain's last known movements. The footage captured Strain stumbling and falling in a parking lot at 3rd Avenue and Church Street around 9:45 p.m. Moments later, at 9:47 p.m., he was seen crossing 1st Avenue North to Gay Street. His last phone ping was also in the vicinity of James Robertson Parkway and Gay Street between 9:55 p.m. and 10 p.m. Unfortunately, the ping covered a two-mile radius and did not provide any further details about Strain's whereabouts.
Concerned about his welfare, a friend of Strain called 911 on Saturday, March 9 and filed a missing person's report. In response to the report, the Metro Nashville Police Department's Urban Search and Rescue team initiated a search around the area near the Cumberland River, where Strain was last seen.
On Sunday, March 17, a significant development emerged in the case when Strain's bank card was discovered on the embankment between Gay Street and the Cumberland River. This finding bolsters ongoing efforts by law enforcement and search teams as they continue to comb the area for any sign of the missing college student.
The discovery of the bank card comes shortly after a body was spotted floating down the Cumberland River, prompting a response from authorities. The Nashville Fire Department confirmed that the person emerged from the water wearing a maroon-colored shirt, unlike the attire described by Strain's family.
