### October Social Security Payments: What Beneficiaries Need to Know

As we move further into October, many Social Security beneficiaries are anticipating their monthly payments. For those who started receiving benefits before May 1997 or who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the first round of payments has already been disbursed. The next set of payments is scheduled for release in the coming days.

The timing of your Social Security payment depends on several factors including how long you’ve been a beneficiary and your birthdate. Typically, Social Security and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments are disbursed starting from the second Wednesday of the month. Additional payments follow on the remaining Wednesdays. Your specific payment day within October is determined by your birthdate, with few exceptions.

For beneficiaries who receive both Social Security and SSI or who have been receiving benefits since before May 1997, the payment schedule is not influenced by their birthdate. These beneficiaries receive their Social Security payments on the 3rd of each month and SSI payments on the 1st. If these dates fall on a weekend or holiday, the payments are adjusted accordingly. For instance, in March, due to the 3rd falling on a weekend, payments were issued on the 1st instead. Similar adjustments will occur in November.

If there are any delays or if your check doesn’t arrive on its expected date, the Social Security Administration (SSA) advises waiting an additional three mailing days before making inquiries. Afterwards, you can reach out to the SSA via their national toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213. The SSA suggests that call wait times are typically shorter in the morning, late in the week, and later in the month. For those experiencing difficulty connecting through the national number, the SSA website offers an office locator to find local offices for assistance.

If you want more information on how to apply for Supplemental Security Income or Social Security Disability Insurance, resources are available to help guide you through the process. Beneficiaries are encouraged to stay informed and reach out if there are any issues regarding their payments.
