As the NFL season looms closer, the focus shifts to the rookies who have quietly emerged as valuable assets for their teams. These first-year players, either undrafted or selected on Day 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft, have showcased their potential during the preseason and are set to make an impact in their inaugural year.

One standout rookie to watch is Jordan Whittington, a wide receiver for the Los Angeles Rams. Although he played in the shadows of other receiving options during his time at Texas, Whittington's impressive athleticism and versatility have turned heads. At 6-foot-1 and 202 pounds, he ran a remarkable 4.47 in the 40-yard dash and displayed agility with a 36-inch vertical leap. Whittington's preseason performance has solidified his place on the Rams' roster as their WR4, leading the entire NFL with 11 receptions for 126 yards.

Joe Andreessen, a linebacker for the Buffalo Bills, has also caught the attention of fans and analysts alike. Coming from the FCS powerhouse Bryant University, Andreessen showcased his skills during training camp and had a breakout performance in the second preseason game, recording 12 tackles and two tackles for loss. With his impressive measurements at 6-0 and 240 pounds, as well as his speed and athleticism, Andreessen has proven himself worthy of a spot on the final 53-man roster. His range and playmaking abilities are set to be valuable assets for the Bills' defense in the regular season.

Dwight McGlothern, a cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings, has experienced an interesting journey in his college career. After playing at LSU and transferring to Arkansas, McGlothern's standout performances on the field did not translate into being selected in the draft. However, his preseason performance has turned heads, as he has blanketed receivers and allowed no catches while securing an interception that he returned 91 yards. Standing at nearly 6-2, McGlothern possesses the physical attributes and natural talent to make an impact in the Vikings' secondary, even with the recent signing of Stephon Gilmore.

Kris Abrams-Draine, a cornerback for the Denver Broncos, has overcome injury concerns to showcase his skills in the SEC for the Missouri Tigers. With 34 pass breakups and seven interceptions in his college career, Abrams-Draine's prowess as a cornerback was evident. In the preseason, he has smoothly transitioned to the NFL, allowing only two receptions for 16 yards on seven targets. His versatility and speed make him a valuable asset in Denver's secondary, particularly in defending against slot receivers.

Lastly, James Williams, a linebacker/safety hybrid for the Tennessee Titans, brings a unique skill set to the field. Standing at an imposing 6-4 and 230 pounds, Williams possesses physicality and coverage abilities. While he primarily played safety in college, his film showed that his future would be at linebacker in the NFL. In the preseason, Williams has displayed his aggressive tackling style and impressive wingspan. Despite his limited workout before the draft, Williams plays with determination and fearlessness. As a seventh-round pick, he is expected to make the Titans' roster and contribute immediately.

These under-the-radar rookies have impressed during the preseason, and they are poised to make an impact in their first year in the NFL. With their skills, athleticism, and determination, they are set to become valuable depth pieces for their respective teams throughout the upcoming season.
