In the midst of the ongoing NFL offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs are facing uncertainty when it comes to their plans for their first-round pick. The recent situation involving Rashee Rice has thrown a wrench into their decision-making process.

Immediately following the incident, mock drafts began projecting wide receivers as potential picks for the Chiefs, although not as frequently as earlier in the offseason. Among the leading candidates highlighted in the 13 mocks covered in the last week are Mitchell, a Georgia wideout, McConkey, another wide receiver from Georgia, and Morgan, an Arizona tackle. Remarkably, these prospects are currently tied with a 23% chance each to be the Chiefs' first pick.

During a pre-draft press conference last Friday, general manager Brett Veach acknowledged that Rice's situation might subconsciously influence the team to lean towards selecting a wide receiver at the 32nd overall pick. However, a recent report suggests that Rice will face a suspension for "multiple games" during the upcoming season, hinting that he may not miss the entire year. This revelation may impact the Chiefs' decision-making process, as Rice's absence would only be for a portion of the season.

Furthermore, both Veach and head coach Andy Reid have expressed their intention to create competition for second-year tackle Wanya Morris, who currently holds the starting left tackle position. This implies that the Chiefs are actively considering bolstering their offensive line and adds further complexity to their first-round selection.

With Mitchell, McConkey, and Morgan all having an equal chance of being the Chiefs' first-round pick, it is possible that their selection reflects the team's current mindset regarding the final selection of the first round. However, it is important to note that Veach's own player evaluations may differ from those made by draft analysts. Additionally, the general manager has not shied away from making trades if it improves the team's chances of success. These factors could render all the speculation and data surrounding the Chiefs' plans completely moot.

Nevertheless, it seems increasingly likely that a wide receiver or a tackle will be considered as attractive options for the Chiefs' 32nd overall pick. The trio of Mitchell, McConkey, and Morgan, referred to as the "three Ms," are emerging as potential candidates for this coveted spot.

As the draft approaches, the Chiefs will undoubtedly continue their careful evaluation of players, weighing various factors as they strive to strengthen the team for the upcoming season. Only time will tell who will be their first-round choice and how it will ultimately impact the team's performance.
