Ukraine carried out a drone strike on the Novolipetsk (NLMK) steel plant in Russia, marking the second anniversary of Moscow's invasion. The attack caused a significant fire at the plant in the western Lipetsk region. The Ukrainian SBU security service claimed responsibility for the strike, stating that the plant was producing weapons for military use in Ukraine.
The Russian army intercepted drones over the Lipetsk region and the southern Kursk region, while the Lipetsk region governor confirmed the fire at the NLMK plant had been extinguished. Images on social media showed a large blaze at the steel plant as security services remained on high alert.
Kyiv has declared its intent to continue targeting sites in Russia during the conflict. The incident follows Ukraine's intensified campaign against key Russian targets. The Novolipetsk steel plant, described as Russia's largest steel producer, was reportedly hit by the drone strike organized by Ukrainian special services.
The attack on the NLMK plant signals escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia, with both sides actively engaging in military actions. The situation remains fluid as authorities work to maintain security and public calm in the affected regions.
