In an unexpected turn of events, the highly anticipated main event of UFC Vegas 107 featuring Maycee Barber and Erin Blanchfield was canceled at the eleventh hour. The two ranked flyweights were geared up to clash on Saturday in Las Vegas. The ESPN stream even aired a pre-fight feature with interviews from both fighters, raising excitement among fans.

However, shortly after the promotional video, the broadcasters delivered the disappointing news that Barber wasn't ready to fight. Following a commercial break, it was announced that the fight had been scratched due to a "last-minute medical issue" for Barber, who failed to secure medical clearance to step into the Octagon. Later, Blanchfield revealed in an interview that UFC executive Hunter Campbell had informed her that Barber had suffered a seizure.

Blanchfield, expressing her disbelief, highlighted just how close to the fight the cancellation occurred. Barber had already missed weight by half a pound the day before and was required to forfeit 20% of her purse to Blanchfield. This was one of several weight-related issues on the card. Despite her initial skepticism, Blanchfield thought they were safe to fight once Barber hit the scales.

When questioned about rescheduling the fight against Barber, Blanchfield promptly declined. Entering the bout, Barber was on an impressive six-fight win streak. On the other hand, Blanchfield was looking to build on a rebound victory over former champion Rose Namajunas, following her first UFC loss to Manon Fiorot in March 2024. Both fighters, ranked in the top five of the UFC's women’s flyweight division, were aiming to move closer to a title shot with a win.

Blanchfield mentioned that she preferred to be matched against another top-five opponent going forward. The immediate future for Barber remains uncertain in light of her medical issue. Thus, the UFC Vegas 107 event concluded with an anti-climactic finish to what was supposed to be an exhilarating main event.
