UFC on ESPN 56 experienced a setback during the official weigh-ins as the welterweight preliminary fight between Jared Gooden and Kevin Jousset was canceled. The event, scheduled to take place on Saturday at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, will now feature one less fight on its lineup.

During the official weigh-in window on Friday at the athlete host hotel, Kevin Jousset successfully made weight in less than 10 minutes. However, Jared Gooden failed to appear, leading to the unfortunate cancellation of their scheduled bout. The UFC promotion announced that Gooden was unable to compete due to "medical reasons" prior to the close of the weigh-in window.

This is not the first time that Gooden has encountered weight issues. In his six fights with the UFC across two separate stints, he has missed the welterweight limit on two occasions. One time, he was three pounds over, and the other time he missed by six pounds.

At the time of publication, neither Jared Gooden nor Kevin Jousset have made any public comments regarding the cancellation. It remains unclear whether Jousset will be swiftly rebooked for another fight.

Now, with the cancellation of Gooden vs. Jousset, the UFC on ESPN 56 lineup has been revised. Fans can still look forward to an exciting night of fights, although one fight shorter than originally planned.
