UFC Heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, has been charged with misdemeanors after an incident involving a drug testing agent on March 30. Court records from the New Mexico Courts website reveal that Jones now faces charges of assault and interference with communications.

If convicted, the champion could potentially face up to a year of jail time and fines of $500 for the assault charge - classified as a petty misdemeanor - and $1,000 for the interference charge.

According to a police report obtained by ABQ Raw, the incident occurred when an agent from Drug Free Sport, the UFC's anti-doping partner, visited Jones' residence in Albuquerque to collect a random sample. Allegedly, Jones became agitated when he was unable to provide a urine sample and was offered the option of providing a blood sample instead.

The police report states that Jones allegedly took the testing agent's cellphone while expressing his frustration about the early visit, stating, "Do you know what happens to people who come to my house? They end up dead." However, Jones has denied threatening the agent with violence, claiming that he was merely caught off-guard by the agent's unprofessional behavior. Jones did admit to using profanity during the encounter.

The UFC champion, who is preparing to defend his heavyweight title, took to Instagram to express his discontent with the situation. However, the post has since been deleted. Jones emphasized that he considers the accusations against him baseless.

While no official date has been announced, Jones has expressed his intention to defend his title against former champion Stipe Miocic at Madison Square Garden in New York in November.

The developments surrounding Jon Jones have raised questions about the future of his fighting career, as fans and analysts speculate on the impact these legal charges may have on his status as the UFC heavyweight champion. The situation is unfolding, and further updates are expected as the legal proceedings progress.
