Russia's Federal Security Service has recently apprehended a woman holding dual U.S. and Russian citizenship for alleged treason, accused of raising funds for the Ukrainian military. The detainee, identified as Ksenia Khavana, was arrested in Yekaterinburg while visiting her family in Russia after working in Los Angeles for several years. According to reports, Khavana, previously known by her maiden name Ksenia Karelina, had been actively collecting donations for Ukrainian causes, sparking accusations that the funds were used for military purposes. However, her employer and friends attest to her philanthropic intentions, noting that she had donated to humanitarian aid organizations supporting Ukraine. Despite White House concerns and requests for consular access, Khavana remains in detention as the investigation unfolds, facing possible conviction under Russian law with penalties of up to 20 years in prison. The arrest follows heightened tensions, including the imprisonment of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich on espionage charges, in what some perceive as a crackdown on dissent in Russia.
