The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) has expressed growing concerns over the disappearance of two women who vanished while traveling to pick up children over the weekend. Veronica Butler, 27, and Jilian Kelley, 39, have not been heard from in several days, leaving authorities to fear for their safety.
The vehicle the women were driving was discovered abandoned in a remote area near the Kansas border on Saturday. The Texas County Sheriff's Office reported that the women never reached their intended destination to pick up the children.
"We believe they are in danger because we have not heard from them in, coming up on three days now," stated OSBI public information manager Hunter McKee. "Where their vehicle was last seen was a very rural area of the state as well. We have not found them yet. We are doing everything we can."
The OSBI has classified this as a "suspicious disappearance case," further raising concerns about the fate of Butler and Kelley. Efforts to locate the women have been ongoing, with authorities conducting an extensive search in the surrounding areas.
According to a Facebook profile believed to belong to Kelley, she works as the secretary of Hugoton First Christian Church in Hugoton, Kansas. Kelley's mother disclosed that she is actively involved in organizing children's programs and is dedicated to volunteering within the community. She is also a mother of four children.
Kelley is married to Heath Kelley, the current pastor of Hugoton First Christian Church. Reports suggest that he is set to become the new minister at Willow Christian Church in Indianola, Nebraska. Willow Christian Church expressed their support in a Facebook post, sharing their belief in the power of prayer for the safe return of both Kelley and Butler.
A close friend of Butler described her as being great with children, enjoying activities such as gardening, cooking, and baking. The Texas County Sheriff's Office issued a missing persons advisory mentioning Butler's various tattoos, including a Chinese symbol on her left forearm and a sunflower on her left shoulder. Kelley, on the other hand, has a butterfly tattoo on her left forearm.
Butler is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall, with red hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue short-sleeve shirt and denim shorts. Kelley has brown hair and blue eyes, and she was wearing a long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and tan or beige shoes at the time of her disappearance.
The vehicle the women were traveling in was found abandoned near Highway 95 and Road L, south of Elkhart, Kansas, in rural Texas County, according to the OSBI.
As the search continues for the missing women, the community and authorities remain hopeful for their safe return. Any information regarding their whereabouts should be immediately reported to the appropriate authorities.
