In a tragic incident last year, 33-year-old Phillip Pasco Clark and 50-year-old Santana Jermaine Kelly have been charged with murder in the slaying of California State University executive Sidney Barrett Morris. The shooting took place at an L.A. Live restaurant on November 28, 20XX, where Morris was brutally attacked while dining alone at the counter.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office confirmed the charges against Clark and Kelly, stating that Morris was fatally shot in the back of the head. The heinous act shocked authorities, with District Attorney George Gascón expressing his condolences to Morris' family and condemning the brazenness of the attack.

Morris was immediately rushed to a local hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead. Describing Morris as a dedicated advocate for inclusivity, Gascón underscored the devastating loss caused by his untimely death.

The defendants, Clark and Kelly, each face one count of murder and one count of conspiracy to commit a crime, with Kelly facing an additional felony count of arson. According to the DA's office, Clark allegedly fired the fatal shot, while Kelly is accused of planning the murder and providing assistance and supplies. Kelly is also alleged to have attempted to destroy evidence by setting fire to the getaway car.

Both suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges during their court appearance on Tuesday. Their preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 25, 20XX. Clark and Kelly are currently being held on bail amounts of $3.06 million and $4.06 million, respectively.

If convicted as charged, Kelly could face a maximum sentence of 100 years to life, while Clark could face a maximum sentence of 85 years to life, according to the DA's office.

The incident has left the community in shock and mourning the loss of Morris, a dedicated advocate for harmony and inclusivity. As the legal proceedings continue, authorities remain committed to bringing accountability to those responsible for this brutal crime.
