Two men, Dominic M. Miller from Kansas City and Lyndell Mays from Raytown, have been charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon in connection with the Super Bowl parade shooting in Kansas City on February 14, 2024. The shooting resulted in the death of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a local radio DJ and mother of two, and left 22 others injured, ranging from 8 to 47 years old.
According to statements from the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office, Miller and Mays attended the parade armed with firearms, and a verbal altercation escalated into gunfire with no concern for the safety of the thousands in attendance. Court documents revealed that an argument over a glance between individuals quickly led to the fatal shooting, with guns drawn from both sides during the confrontation.
During a news conference, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker stated that the defendants, who were injured in the shooting and are currently hospitalized, are being held on $1 million bond. It was reported that Miller allegedly opened fire, resulting in the death of Lopez-Galvan. Mays admitted to opening fire as well, expressing remorse for his actions.
The investigation is ongoing, with the possibility of more charges being filed against others involved in the shooting. Prosecutor Baker urged anyone with information, especially those injured during the incident, to come forward as they seek to hold every shooter accountable for their actions on that tragic day.
