In the chaotic days preceding the RBC Canadian Open, the tournament has been marred by a series of withdrawals, forcing the PGA Tour to scramble for replacements. The disruption continued into Wednesday, with more players stepping back from the competition at the last minute.
Notably, veteran golfer Matt Kuchar, who has amassed career earnings of $60 million, has opted out of the event. Kuchar recently competed in the Memorial Tournament, where Scottie Scheffler claimed his 16th title. Kuchar ended with a T25 finish, scoring 4-over par. He has not publicly disclosed his reasons for withdrawing. In his absence, Dylan Wu, a player with $3 million in career earnings, will take his place in the tournament.
Kuchar isn't the only one to withdraw. Sahith Theegala and Taylor Dickinson have also decided to sit out the RBC Canadian Open. Theegala's withdrawal is due to a neck injury that had earlier kept him from participating in both the PGA Championship and the Truist Championship. Replacements for these players include Taylor Montgomery and Cameron Champ, ensuring the field remains competitive.
Among those headlining the RBC Canadian Open is Rory McIlroy. McIlroy's last appearance was at the PGA Championship where he finished a disappointing T47 with a score of 3-over par. McIlroy has confirmed that he will speak to the media on Wednesday, adding to the anticipation surrounding the event.
