Twelve people were injured when a Qatar Airways plane traveling from Doha to Dublin experienced turbulence, authorities at Dublin Airport reported. Eight of the injured passengers were subsequently hospitalized.

According to a statement released by Dublin Airport, flight QR017, operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, landed safely as scheduled before 1 p.m. (1200 GMT). However, upon landing, emergency services were deployed to meet the aircraft, including airport police and the fire and rescue department, due to reports of injuries from six passengers and six crew members. These individuals had experienced turbulence while the plane was airborne over Turkey.

Upon assessment, all passengers on board the plane were examined for injuries, and eight of them were later transported to a nearby hospital. Qatar Airways, in their own statement, confirmed that a small number of passengers and crew sustained minor injuries and are now receiving medical attention. The airline has launched an internal investigation to probe the incident.

This incident follows closely after a tragic event in which a British man died from a suspected heart attack and numerous passengers were injured due to severe turbulence on a Singapore Airlines flight from London. While fatalities caused by turbulence are rare, the number of injuries resulting from such incidents has been on the rise in recent years.

Meteorologists and aviation analysts have also raised concerns about the increasing reports of turbulence encounters, pointing to the potential influence of climate change on flying conditions. The impacts of climate change on weather patterns and air currents may lead to more frequent and intense turbulence in the future.

Authorities and industry experts continue to stress the importance of passengers following safety protocols provided by airlines during flights, including keeping seat belts fastened and remaining seated during times of turbulence.
