Donald Trump and Nikki Haley are set to go head-to-head in South Carolina's first-in-the-South Republican presidential primary on Saturday. The primary will be a crucial battle between the two major candidates just a month after the New Hampshire primary. Haley, a former South Carolina governor, faces the challenge of winning against Trump, who holds strong support from the party establishment and conservative base in the state.

The primary, which marks an important indicator for the Republican presidential nomination, will see voters choose between seven candidates on the ballot. With 50 delegates at stake, 29 will be awarded to the overall winner, while the remaining 21 will be allocated based on the vote in the state's seven congressional districts.

Haley and Trump have engaged in aggressive campaigning, exchanging sharp attacks against each other. Haley has questioned Trump's fitness for office, particularly criticizing his comments on Russia and NATO. The primary results will provide insights into each candidate's strength in different areas of the state, as shown by past election performances.

The primary is open to all registered voters in the state, with an early voting period from February 12 to 22. The election night results are expected to be decisive in shaping the path forward for both candidates leading up to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, just 142 days away.
