### Travis Kelce Remains Unfazed by Slow Start, Prioritizes Team Success
Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs' star tight end, is experiencing an unusually quiet start this season. Kelce has recorded only eight catches for 69 yards, the lowest for any three-game span in his illustrious career. Despite running 82 routes in 2024 and averaging 0.8 yards per route, Kelce remains unconcerned about his personal statistics.
In a recent episode of New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, he explained that his primary focus is not on personal achievements but on the overall success of the offense. "I'm not getting caught up in getting the targets and all that. I just want to have a successful offense," Kelce said. He emphasized that Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs' quarterback, is doing an excellent job of finding open players, attributing the slow start to adapting to new players and pieces in the offense.
Kelce, a nine-time Pro Bowler, stressed his commitment to team victories over individual accolades. "I've had a lot of catches in this league, man. I'm not worried about the catches and the yards and all of that. It has everything to do with execution and making sure we're doing whatever we can to win these football games," he reiterated.
During a Wednesday news conference, Mahomes acknowledged the increased defensive focus on Kelce, explaining that it creates opportunities for other players. He referenced a play where Kelce drew multiple defenders, leaving Noah Gray wide open for a 13-yard gain. "I feel like I want to get him the ball more, whereas he's just like, 'I just want to win, man,'" Mahomes noted, highlighting Kelce's team-first mentality.
Mahomes further elaborated on how Kelce's presence benefits the team. He pointed out that rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice has thrived under this dynamic, generating over 75 yards in each game and leading the NFL with 24 receptions and 200 yards after the catch this season.
As the season progresses, it remains to be seen whether defenses will continue to focus heavily on Kelce, allowing other players like Rice to shine or if adjustments will be made, potentially freeing up more opportunities for the future Hall of Fame tight end. Kelce's unwavering focus on team success over personal glory sets a commendable example as the Chiefs navigate their season.
