**Travis Kelce Ties Franchise Record, But Chiefs Trail Broncos at Halftime**
In a thrilling first half of Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce achieved a remarkable milestone. Kelce secured a 2-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes, marking the 76th touchdown reception of his career. This accomplishment ties the all-time franchise record set by Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez.
Despite Kelce's impressive feat, the Chiefs find themselves trailing the Broncos 14-10 at halftime. Kansas City's offensive efforts included another Kelce touchdown, his second of the 2024 season, but it wasn't enough to secure a lead by the break.
The Broncos demonstrated effective offensive play, resulting in a nine-play, 80-yard drive that culminated in a 6-yard touchdown reception by rookie receiver Devaughn Vele, his first career touchdown. Following a 36-yard field goal by Chiefs' kicker Harrison Butker, Denver responded with a 32-yard touchdown pass from Bo Nix to receiver Courtland Sutton.
Bo Nix had a standout first half, completing 14 of 20 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Courtland Sutton led the Broncos with three catches for 48 yards and a touchdown. On the Chiefs' side, Mahomes was 16-of-20 for 129 yards with a touchdown. Kelce contributed with six receptions for 53 yards and a TD, while DeAndre Hopkins made three catches for 25 yards.
The Chiefs faced a setback when left tackle Wanya Morris went down with a knee injury in the second quarter, rendering him questionable to return. Rookie Kingsley Suamataia stepped in to fill the gap.
Looking ahead, Kansas City will start the second half on offense as they receive the kickoff, aiming to overcome the four-point deficit.
