Tragic West Portal Crash Claims Lives of Family Members; Baby Succumbs to Injuries

In a devastating turn of events, a six-month-old baby boy who was involved in a fatal crash at a bus stop in West Portal, San Francisco, has tragically passed away from his injuries. The infant, identified as Caue, was the sole survivor of the crash that claimed the lives of his parents, Diego Cardoso de Oliveira and Matilde, as well as his one-year-old brother, Joaquin.
The fatal incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Ulloa Street and Lenox Way when a Mercedes SUV collided into the family who were waiting at the bus stop. The collision resulted in the immediate loss of life for the elder brother, parents, and left Caue critically injured. Despite efforts to save him, the baby ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Brazilian Consulate-General in San Francisco expressed their profound sadness over the tragedy, extending their condolences to the affected individuals and families. The 78-year-old driver of the SUV, Mary Fong Lau, was taken into custody on suspicion of multiple charges, including three felony counts of vehicular manslaughter, driving the wrong way, reckless driving, and driving at an unsafe speed. Lau, who was also injured in the crash, is reportedly cooperating with the authorities. However, as of Thursday, she was released from police custody without any formal charges filed against her.
