Six individuals lost their lives in a tragic shooting in Birmingham on Friday, causing shock and grief throughout the community. The incident, described by Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond as a "targeted" attack, occurred around 3 p.m. in the College Hills neighborhood, resulting in the deaths of five men and one woman. Among the victims were 32-year-old Cortez Ray, 36-year-old Talton Tate, 38-year-old Terrell Edwards, and 38-year-old Kevin McGhee.

Authorities revealed that three people died at the scene, while another individual was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to their injuries during surgery. The shooting took place near a neighborhood car wash, although the police have not yet identified any suspects or determined the number of perpetrators involved.

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin expressed his condolences, sharing that the devastating violence also hit close to home for him as one of the deceased was his cousin. Woodfin emphasized the need for the community to come together in seeking justice for the victims and their families.
