In a rare and devastating incident, a mountain lion attacked two hunters in a remote area of El Dorado County, Northern California, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old man and injuries to his 18-year-old brother. The incident took place while the brothers were out searching for shed antlers.

According to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, the younger brother made an emergency call on Saturday afternoon, reporting the mountain lion attack. Deputies arrived swiftly at the scene to find the younger brother with severe facial injuries. Shockingly, they spotted the mountain lion crouched beside his older brother, who was already on the ground.

Reacting swiftly, the deputies fired their guns, successfully scaring off the mountain lion. Sadly, despite their efforts, the older brother succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The exact cause of death has yet to be determined.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has launched a search for the mountain lion responsible for the attack. However, no further information about the ongoing search has been released at this time.

While mountain lion attacks on humans have occurred in the past, the last fatal encounter was documented in 2004 in Orange County, according to records maintained by the fish and wildlife department. These incidents serve as a reminder of the inherent dangers when venturing into the wilderness and the need for caution while exploring areas inhabited by wild animals.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, and our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the victims during this difficult time.
